POEMS

DECOLONIZATION, NOT A WORD BY CECILIA ROSE LAPOINTE

What can you do,
When colonization catapults onto your being,
Burrows into your soul,
Your heart,
Your mind,
Your family,
Your hands,
What do you do?
When all you know is abuse,
Addiction,
What do you do?
When all you know is to cry,
There's no resources,
There's no outlet,
Even within the community,
As much as people emphasize community,
Community organizing,
Community activist,
I'm a community person,
When people are still crying,
Crying,
In their homes,
Alone,
What do you do when this burrows in,
What do you do to the intricate layers of oppression,
When decolonization is not a word,
Its not an idea,
Not known,
And your touting your activist language,
When people are at home,
They have no resources,
No community,
No activist organizing for them in their homes,
What do you do when colonization burrows into your soul?

ON IMPERALISM BY RAZA ALI HASAN

Proxies—pertinent, prominent, proximate—
impose war, sustain it.

The Empire ever absent and seemingly elsewhere—
evasive, persuasive, pervasive. Things are

this complicated.

ORGANIZATIONS, PROTESTS, AND MOVEMENTS

BLACK LIVES MATTER MOVEMENT

#BlackLivesMatter was founded in 2013 in response to the acquittal of Trayvon Martin’s murderer. Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation, Inc. is a global organization in the US, UK, and Canada, whose mission is to eradicate white supremacy and build local power to intervene in violence inflicted on Black communities by the state and vigilantes. By combating and countering acts of violence, creating space for Black imagination and innovation, and centering Black joy, we are winning immediate improvements in our lives.

INDIGENOUS PEOPLE’S MOVEMENT

Indigenous Peoples Movement is uniting indigenous peoples from across the world to stand together to bring awareness to the issues affecting indigenous men, women, children and two spirits. Indigenous people from North, Central and South America, Oceania, Asia, Africa and The Caribbean are a target of genocide.

Presently, many indigenous people are victims of voter suppression, divided families by walls and borders, an environmental holocaust, sex and human trafficking, and police/military brutality with little or no resources nor awareness of these injustices.
